During 23 – 27 August 2017, H.E. Mr. Jukr Boon-Long, Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar, led a Thai delegation comprising officials of the Royal Thai Embassy and local authorities in Mae Hong Son Province on a survey trip along the border between Mae Hong Son Province and Kayah State. The objective of this survey trip is to identify challenges and opportunities for upgrading the existing checkpoints to an international one as well as developing the border areas.

Joining this survey trip were Mr. Seubsak Iamvicharn, Governor of Mae Hong Son Province, and Mr. Permsak Chawirak, Vice Governor of Mae Hong Son Province. While in Bawlakhe District, Kayah State on 25 August 2017, Ambassador Jukr also had a chance to exchange views with U Moe Thet, Chairman of the General Administration Department, Bawlakhe District, on enhancing connectivity between Mae Hong Son Province and Kayah State as well as fostering development along the border areas.

Thailand attaches great importance to cooperation with all Myanmar with an aim to turning borders into the areas of mutual development. The two governments are working closely to an eventual opening of an international checkpoint linking Mae Hong Son Province and Kayah State and beyond to facilitate trade, investment and movement of people for the benefits of the two countries.
