Nationalities with Additional Requirements and Considerations
When applying for a visa to enter Thailand, additional requirements and considerations apply to nationals of the following 29 countries:
- China*
- Bangladesh**
- Nepal**
- Pakistan**
- Sri Lanka**
- Egypt**
- Iran**
- Lebanon**
- Palestine**
- Yemen**
- Algeria**
- Central African Republic**
- Cameroon**
- Republic of the Congo**
- Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)**
- Equatorial Guinea**
- Guinea**
- Ghana**
- Liberia**
- Libya**
- Sao Tome and Principe**
- Sierra Leone**
- Somalia**
- Sudan**
- Nigeria***
- North Korea****
- Afghanistan****
- Iraq****
- Syria****
*Chinese nationals intending to stay in Thailand for more than 90 days will be subject to a background check, which takes up to 1 week. Only Chinese nationals with residence in Myanmar may apply for a Tourist/Transit Visa to re-enter Thailand.
**Nationals from this group of countries with no FRC will be subject to a background check and apporved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which takes up to 4 weeks. Therefore, the applicant is advised to apply for a visa at the Thai Embassy or Consulate-General in their home/residence country or at the designated Thai Embassy for faster consideration times. (This requirement may be waived for applicants under 18 years old at the discretion of the consular officer)
***Only Nigerian nationals with FRC in Myanmar may apply for a visa from the Royal Thai Embassy, required to present a local background clearance certificate.
****Only North Korean, Afghan, Iraqi and Syrian nationals with FRC wishing to apply for a visa from the Royal Thai Embassy will be subject to a background check, which takes up to 4 weeks.
*Visa may be granted, in special circumstances, only with approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or concerned authorities in Thailand.
