Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon Promotes Construction Sector and Related Sectors in Myanmar

On 28 September 2017, Mr. Narong Boonsatheanwong, Minister, Royal Thai Embassy, Yangon, delivered the congratulatory remarks at the opening ceremony of the 4th Myanmar Build & Décor 2017, organized by Index Creative Village Co. Ltd. The purpose of the event was to promote business networking, expand trade and investment opportunities in the construction sector, interior design and interior decoration industry,    as well as furniture industry. It was organized at Myanmar Event Park and showcased over 200 brands from both local and international companies, including those from China, Singapore, Japan, and Thailand. Representatives from related Myanmar agencies gave importance to the event and also attended. They include U Aung Myint, President of the Myanmar Engineering Society, U Sun Oo, President of the Association of Myanmar Architects, U Nyein Aung, President of the Myanmar Associateship of Government Technical Institute Society, U Tin Aung, Secretary of the Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association, and Daw Mi Mi Tin, Director from the Ministry of Construction.

Minister Narong Boonsatheanwong congratulated the organizers of the event, which aims to support Myanmar’s economic development. Myanmar Build & Décor has become the best source for building materials, interior design, furniture, and decoration in Myanmar. It highlights the potential of Myanmar’s construction sector, which has been reformed and developed, and has led to a changing lifestyle that incorporates international trends. The Embassy is pleased that Myanmar Build & Décor has become a platform for architects, interior designers, property developers, people from the construction industry, as well as traders and distributors to network, do business matching, and exchange knowledge and experiences. In addition, Minister Boonsatheanwong spoke of the Thailand 4.0 policy which seeks to push Thailand out of the middle income trap into the high income range. Thailand 4.0 is an economic model which promotes economic development that is driven by technology, innovation, and creativity. This includes the construction sector, and Thailand stands ready to share information on the Thailand 4.0 policy with Myanmar, so that both countries can jointly develop on the new model.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon has consistently supported activities of Thai businesses in Myanmar to strengthen the existing close economic relations and mutual benefits between the two countries. Thailand sees many opportunities for business collaboration, especially in the sectors prioritized by the Myanmar government, such as construction. Thailand’s policy is for neighbouring countries to jointly develop and move forward together as a region, and as part of the ASEAN Economic Community.
