On 28 January 2018, Ms. Wiraka Moodhitaporn, Minister Counsellor, Royal Thai Embassy, Yangon, attended the 2018 U Thant Memorial Lecture to commemorate U Thant’s 109th birth anniversary. Dr. Noeleen Heyzer, Former United Nations Under Secretary-General, and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), gave an inspiring lecture on “Leadership for Peace and Shared Prosperity” in reminiscence of U Thant’s advocacy for peace, tolerance for diversity, and sustainable development, and major achievements as the first UN Secretary General from Asia. The Embassy joins U Thant House and Myanmar people in commemorating the 109th birth anniversary of this great statesman.
