On 26 May 2018, Ambassador Jukr Boon-Long led a Thai business delegation to the Kayah State Investment Forum. The Forum was jointly organized by the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC), the Kayah State Government, and the Kayah Investment Committee. Its purpose was to provide information on the prioritized sectors for investment in Kayah State, which includes (1) agriculture; (2) mining; (3) hotels and tourism; and (4) industry.
U L Phaung Cho, Chief Minister of Kayah State, and U Maung Maung Win, Deputy Minister of Planning and Finance, opened the Kayah State Investment Forum. Ministers of the Kayah State Government, the Secretary of the Myanmar Investment Commission, and the diplomatic corps in Yangon were also present.
There were many discussions on various sectors between the panelists and the audience. With regard to potential Thai-Myanmar collaboration, the Myanmar side expressed its interest to promote tourism with Thailand. In response, Ambassador informed the Forum of the Royal Thai Government’s policy and preparations to upgrade the Huay Ton Noon - Mae Sae checkpoint (BP13) to a permanent border checkpoint. The Thai private sector also expressed their interest to invest in swine farming and hydropower, and recommended that Kayah State be developed into a logistics hub for sending products from Thailand into Kayah State, up to Shan State and Yunnan Province in China.
