On 6 August 2018, Ambassador Jukr Boon-Long, Mr. Narong Boonsatheanwong, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Royal Thai Embassy, together with Ms. Walika Apayasiri, Counsellor at the Office of Commercial Affairs, Mr. Sorasak Keeratichokechaikul, President of the Thai Business Association of Myanmar (TBAM), and Mr. Nattawin Phongsphetrarat, Vice President of TBAM, received Assistant Professor Kitti Siripullop, and university lecturers from the Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, Thammasat University.
The Royal Thai Embassy emphasized Thailand’s policy to enhance relations with neighbouring countries and highlighted activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Thailand-Myanmar diplomatic relations in 2018. In addition, the Embassy informed the delegation of Thailand and Myanmar’s close relations, as State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint made their first official overseas trip to Thailand after assuming their positions.
In addition, the Embassy spoke of Thailand’s policy to promote connectivity, and trade and investment with Myanmar. Thailand recognizes that Myanmar is at the heart of many economic corridors and that the Myanmar Government prioritizes investment in infrastructure development. For this reason, the Embassy has organized economic trips to survey business opportunities along major logistics routes, such as the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway, and is striving to open more permanent border checkpoints between Thailand and Myanmar. The Embassy has also promoted joint development along the Thai-Myanmar border, and has invited Myanmar’s senior officials on economic affairs to visit Thailand, to give presentations on Myanmar’s economy, as well as investment opportunities, to the Thai business community. For example, the Myanmar Insight 2018 economic seminar on 20 July 2018 in Bangkok.
It is our aim to promote joint sustainable development and to encourage Thai businesses in Myanmar to give back to the local community through corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.
