On 9 August 2018, Mr. Narong Boonsatheanwong, Chargé d’Affaires, delivered the congratulatory remarks at the opening ceremony for SCI Metal Tech at Thilawa Special Economic Zone, together with Daw Cho Cho Wynn, Vice Chairperson of Thilawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Management Committee, U Aung Soe Tha, Chairman of Myanmar Japan Thilawa Development Limited, Mr. Pisit Serewiwattana, President of EXIM Bank of Thailand, and Mr. Noppol Milinthanggoon, Chairman of the Board of Directors, SCI Electric Public Company Limited, which is the parent company of SCI Metal Tech.
The Chargé d’Affaires congratulated SCI Metal Tech, and was pleased that Thailand is the second top investor in Thilawa SEZ with 14 Thai companies. In addition, he was pleased that SCI Metal Tech constructed a modern factory according to international standards, and that the company is making use of modern technology and adding value to metal products. In doing so, SCI Metal Tech is implementing the Royal Thai Government’s Thailand 4.0 policy to create a value-based economy driven by innovation, and has received financial support from EXIM Bank, Thailand. Thailand 4.0 aims to increase national competitiveness and to lift the growth potential of the economy in the long term. It is a policy that Thailand is willing to share with Myanmar friends to strengthen the Thai-Myanmar economic partnership.
The Chargé d’Affaires highlighted that Thailand views Myanmar as a natural strategic partner, and continuously works to promote bilateral trade and investment for the joint development of both countries, in line with the Royal Thai Government’s policy. The Embassy has also consistently encouraged Thai businesses to implement corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, to give back to the local community in their area of investment.
