         On 18 - 27 January 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon in collaboration with the Pollution Control Department (PCD) organised “the Technical workshop and study visit on Transboundary Haze Pollution Management between Thailand and Myanmar” in Thailand, in which 20 officials from Myanmar participated, including 9 representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, 2 representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Communications, 7 representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, and 2 representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.

          This technical workshop is a part of the efforts in solving the problem of Transboundary Haze Pollution Management following the tripartite leadership meeting among Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Thailand held on 7 April 2023, in which the collaborative approaches to address transboundary haze issues relating to the "CLEAR Sky Strategy" of the Royal Thai Government  were discussed. Many Thai agencies concerned attended the workshop in order to share the knowledges and experiences as well as exchange views with participants from Myanmar, including the Pollution Control Department (PCD), Thai Meteorological Department, Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thaicom Public Company Limited, and Thai Health Promotion Foundation. The key topics in the workshop curriculum were (1) the source of PM 2.5 and its impact to the people, (2) the methods of monitoring, inspecting, evaluating, and predicting air pollution by using satellite systems and the air quality monitoring devices, (3) the solution of burning problems by providing the communities with knowledge, the changing of the way of thinking, the recommendation on applying the sustainable farming and the utilisation of technology as well as (4) the setting of regulations and guidelines to prevent the problems caused by the incineration. During the workshop, the participants also discussed on the setting up of the contact points between for officials related to this issue of both countries, as well as visited Space Krenovation Park in Si Racha District, Chonburi Province.

          The certificate ceremony for the Myanmar participants of the said workshop was held on 26 January 2024, awarded by Ms. Preeyaporn Suwannakes, Director-General of the Pollution Control Department, and witnessed by Mr. Yordying Supasri, Minister Counsellor, as a representative of the Royal Thai Embassy, Yangon. The representative of Myanmar participants also expressed the appreciation and gave the souvenirs to representatives of the Pollution Control Department and the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon, which are the main agencies that implements the workshop. The participants also evaluated the workshop at the satisfactory level and expressed the opinions which the Embassy will use as the reference in organising further workshops in the next phase.
