On 20 June 2014, Royal Thai Embassy hosted a cultural event for Myanmar ASEAN Women’s Friendship Association (MAWFA), led by spouses of Deputy Foreign Minister and Director-Generals of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar. Also attended are ASEAN ladies and spouses of ambassadors and defence attachés in Yangon.  The event took place at Nacha Thai Restaurant in Yangon.

Entitled “Exotic Lanna Day”, the participants learned about the history in brief, and the culture and traditions of the Ancient Lanna Kingdom, which was located in the present day Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand, as well as the shared values and wisdoms of Thailand and Myanmar. The participants also learned some tips about jade quality and selection, and how to cook Thai spicy salad.  

This MAWFA’s international ladies programme served not only as a social gathering among ASEAN women and ladies of the diplomatic corps in Myanmar, but was also a forum to further promote cultural exchange and friendship among peoples of diverse backgrounds for the development of cordial ties and mutual understanding of Thailand-ASEAN and the international community.
