The Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon, in collaboration with Dale Carnegie Training Thailand, organized the capacity building workshop on “Leading and Managing Diversity” during 14-17 September 2015 for Myanmar government officials.

The 2-day intensive workshop was organized for 2 sessions, each limited to 25 participants for maximum results, so that trainers could be more focused and able to pay more attention to coach participants.

This workshop was the fourth in series of capacity building on leadership and management, initiated by the Royal Thai Embassy in response to the requests by several Myanmar government agencies with a view to enhancing capacity of Myanmar personnel to cope with rapid changes and reforms currently taking place in Myanmar, as well as the integration into the ASEAN Community.

For this workshop, the content is specially designed in response to the needs and more challenging working environments of government officials at the mid-management level, where they are expected to perform better and lead junior staff, while faced with higher expectations from their superiors and generation gaps in the office, and more exposed to foreign counterparts and different cultures, as the country is integrating into the international community.

The participants were government officials from different states and regions, working for union and regional government agencies.  Some of them came from as far as Ayeyarwaddy Region and Rakhine State.  It was the first time for some participants to attend workshop like this.

All of them were interested and eager to learn and be equipped with necessary skills to be better able to handle more demanding jobs.  As part of learning exercises, they shared challenges faced at offices and possible means to overcome them.  It is hoped that these exercises would help promote teambuilding as well as generated new and practical ideas which could be applied when they go back to work.

Dale Carnegie is a global leader in training and career development, and is internationally recognized as one of the best in bringing out the best in people.  A cooperative activity such as this for the benefits of Myanmar people and society symbolized the close and cordial relations between Thailand and Myanmar.
