On 23 September 2016, the Department of East Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand, in collaboration with the Thai-Myanmar Business Council and the Thai-Myanmar Association for Friendship, organized a seminar on “Myanmar’s Trade and Investment Insight: Keys to Unlocking a Successive Business Endeavour” at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. The seminar sought to provide the latest information on potential sectors for trade and investment in Myanmar, as well as an update on related rules and regulations by both Thai and Myanmar authorities and businessmen, and was well attended by 150 Thai business people.

In his keynote speech, Ambassador Pisanu encouraged Thai investors to have confidence in Myanmar’s business environment, and outlined the recent positive changes in the country. This includes the smooth political transition to an elected civilian government, an era of new politics, and peace process, which means that border areas have now become areas of economic opportunity. Ambassador Pisanu also highlighted the importance of establishing a foothold in Myanmar at a time when there is increasing international competition, and spoke of the opportunities in Myanmar’s connectivity to China.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon has been promoting better understanding on the trade and investment opportunities between Thailand and Myanmar to further enhance existing close economic relations for mutual benefits of the two countries.
