Thailand and Myanmar: In cooperation for future biomass power plant in Taninthayi Region

On 14 July 2017, Dr. Lei Lei Maw, Chief Minister of Taninthayi Region, together with Mr. Narong Boonsatheanwong, Minister, Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon, witnessed the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) regarding of the cooperation for the construction of the biomass power plant between PPWE Co., Ltd. (Thailand) with Brilliant Myanmar Co., Ltd. and Shwe Nann Htet Co., Ltd. (Myanmar) at Dawei Hotel, Dawei, Taninthayi Region.     

This MOA is the initiative focusing on study, research and development for the construction of the electric power plant based on biomass source with the capability of 12 megawatts in Myeik Township, Taninthayi Region. The study and research process would take approximately 2 years, with an aim to be a vital power source, provide an inexpensive cost and support the future development of Taninthayi, the region which the main electric cable has not been reached.     

Chief Minister of Taninthayi Region mentioned to the importance of the electric power source with reasonable price which would benefits people and able to generate the electric power throughout the region for the sake of development. At the same time, the minister also extended the compliment to the cooperation of private sectors for the biomass power plant that will enhance the economic opportunity in the region. Taninthayi Region is considered as a close and important neighbor to Thailand in terms of energy and connectivity.  Moreover, there is an opportunity for the tourism sector by its beautiful landscape and scenery.
