During 28 – 31 August 2014 H.E.Mr.Pisanu Suvanajata led officials from Royal Thai Embassy to meet Thai communities in Tachilek and Kyaitong, Shan State. The main objective of the visit is to provide consular services to Thai nationals working or residing in Tachilek and Kyaitong as well as to explore trade and investment opportunities in the areas.

The Embassy’s team also took the opportunity to establish a Thai community network in Tachilek and Kyaitong, comprising the local authorities and Friends of Thailand in both cities. The network will serves as a contact point for the Embassy to be connected with the Thai communities as well as to provide assistance to Thai nationals in the said areas in due time.

According to the survey, over 2,000 Thais business people and tourists travel to Myanmar through Tachilek – Mae Sai border check point on daily basis. Thai passport holders with valid Myanmar visa are allowed to travel further to inner Shan State such as Kyaitong, Taunggyi, and other major cities in Myanmar. In addition, the road (R3B) makes the trip to inner Shan State more accessible and convenient, for example, it takes approximately 3 – 4 hours from Tachilek to Kyaitong.
