On 10 October 2014, H.E. Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, visited the Thai Business Information Centre (BIC) and met with the Thai business community in Myanmar at the Royal Thai Embassy, Yangon.
The Royal Thai Embassy established the BIC as part of Thailand’s economic diplomacy, with an emphasis on increasing strength and competitiveness of existing Thai businesses in Myanmar and those that are interested to enter Myanmar market. The BIC provides a variety of services. With two staffs working full-time at the Centre, the BIC provides preliminary business consultation service as well as information service on Myanmar market and economy for Thai businessmen. The BIC also disseminates information on trade and investment regulations and economic movements in Myanmar through its website : www.thaibizmyanmar.com. And, through e-mail, the BIC keeps subscribers updated various developments in Myanmar necessary for business decisions (subcription of “the daily business news from Myanmar” can be made via BIC’s website or sending request to [email protected]). All of these BIC’s services are free of charge with the aim to assist and facilitate Thai businesses in Myanmar. In addition, the BIC organizes regular business events to allow Thai businesses to establish network and connection with their Myanmar counterparts.
In the meeting with the executive committees of the Thai Business Association in Myanmar and the Thai business community, Prime Minister Gen. Prayut reiterated the government’s priority in supporting Thai businesses abroad in order for them to be more competitive. The setting up of the Thai Business Association in Myanmar as well as the BIC will enhance the Thai business community in Myanmar and prospective Thai investors to run effectively their businesses that would serve to further strengthen economic relations between Thailand and Myanmar.
