The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, the Royal Thai Embassy (Yangon), the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Myanmar, and the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Association hosted the Royal Kathin Robe Offering Ceremony on 1 November 2014 at the Myanmar-Thai Friendship Monastery, Yangon.
H.E. General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Thailand presided as the Head of Ceremony to offer the Royal Kathin Robe to Agga Maha Thaddhama Jotika Daja Maha Gandar Wasaka Panita Ashin Kundinnya, Abbot of the Myanmar-Thai Friendship Monastery. H.E. U Soe Win, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and over 400 distinguished guests from both Myanmar and Thai joined the ceremony. This year the Myanmar-Thai Friendship Monastery received a donation of 2.4 million Thai Baht or over 75 million Myanmar Kyats to renovate buildings and to support religious activities of the monastery.
In this special occasion, Bangkok Hospital provided free medical check-up, as well as Tony Tun Tun providing free hair salon for the surrounding community.
Prior to the ceremony, Tipitakadhara Dhammabhandagarika Sunlun Sayadaw Ashin Sundara, Abbot of the Sunlun Meditation Centre, Yangon offered Buddhist sermon to Myanmar and Thai guests on 31 October 2014 at the Monastery.
These religious activities reflect the close and cordial friendship between both countries and respect to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand offering the Royal Kathin Robe to Myanmar for over a decade.
