On 13 November 2014, as part of the spouse programme on the sideline of the 25th ASEAN Summit and Related Summit in Nay Pyi Taw, Assoc. Prof. Naraporn Chan-o-cha, Spouse of H.E. Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, visited the Thai-Myanmar Friendship School at Basic Education Primary School, Thapyay Hla, in Nay Pyi Taw to grant scholarship to pupils with excellent academic records but lack financial resource and inspect the progress of construction.
This school is a Thailand-Myanmar Friendship School in Nay Pyi Taw, a project initiated in 2013 to commemorate the 65th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Thailand and Myanmar. Under this project, the Thai side supported the renovation of existing school building, construction of lavatory complex for boys and girls, and provision of books, stationery and sport gears. During the recent official visit to Myanmar of Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha in October, Thailand offered additional support of 3 million baht to the School for the construction of a new building, which will house a childcare centre, new classrooms, library, and teacher dormitory. The construction is expected to start soon for completion before Thingyan in April 2015.
On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Naraporn gave scholarships to 25 pupils, chosen by school board based on their learning ability, behaviour in class, and financial status, as a means to help encourage these outstanding pupils to further excel themselves. The pupils also performed dances in Myanmar songs to entertain the delegation.
Assoc. Prof. Naraporn also inspected the new lavatory facilities, recently completed, and the site for construction of the new building. Being a career teacher, she took great interest in education and gave numerous advices on how to further upgrade the school facilities, children development, as well as the engagement of Myanmar youths in exchange programmes with Thailand.
This school will serve not only as a symbol of friendship between Thailand and Myanmar, but also as a fertile ground of education for Myanmar pupils to grow up and become a solid foundation for the development of Myanmar.
