On 5 December 2014, the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon hosted the candle lighting ceremony to pay tribute to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand on the auspicious occasion of his 87th Birthday Anniversary. The Thai Community and Friends of Thailand in Myanmar joined in to light candles to show their loyalty, love and respect to our beloved king, as well as witness the flourishing friendship and fraternity between Thailand and Myanmar at the Reception at the lawn of the Thai Residence.
Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata and Madame, were joined by the Army, Navy, Air Force and Police Attache's, Embassy officials, members of “the Team Thailand” in Myanmar, and members of the Thai Community, more than 600 in total. They jointly sang the Royal Anthem, lit the candles, cited the prayer, and signed the book of blessing to express their loyalty and best wishes for His Majesty the King.
Afterwards, the Embassy and the Thai Community co-hosted the Reception for the high-level representatives from Myanmar Government, the diplomatic corps and international organizations, private sector, and Friends of Thailand in Myanmar. This year, the Guest of Honour was H.E. U Nyan Tun Aung, Union Minister for Transport, who represented the Myanmar President, in celebrating the 87th Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the King. Army Chief of Staff of Myanmar and Commander of Yangon Military Region were also present at the Reception.
On this occasion, there were cultural performances brought in from Thailand, especially for this event. The main performance was highlighted by Mrs. Banyen Rakkaen, National Artist, with traditional songs and dances performed by Artists from University of Chiang Mai and Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University. These performances not only entertained the guests with cultural extravaganza, but more importantly, it also helped promote the tourism promotion campaign "Amazing Thailand: Discover Thainess 2015". There were also displays and demonstration of Thai cooking and fruit carving at the Thai village showcases from 4 regions. Over 1 ,400 guests enjoyed Thai and international food and beverages from 60 stations, sponsored by various Thai businesses in Myanmar.
This is one of the events that the Thai Community in Myanmar joined together to show their loyalty in tribute of His Majesty the King and to demonstrate to the world the spirit of "Thainess".
