On 9 March 2015, H.E. Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Ambassador of Thailand, and his team from the Royal Thai Embassy visited Ayeyarwady Region to follow up on development projects and explore the possibility for further cooperation.

On this occasion, Amb. Pisanu paid a courtesy call on H.E. U Thein Aung, Chief Minister of Ayeyarwady Region, and discussed potential areas of cooperation between the two countries, including tourism, agriculture, fisheries, health, education, and infrastructure development, in which Thailand has knowledge and experiences to share.  With blessing from the Chief Minister, Amb. Pisanu also offered to host a meeting between Thai and Myanmar businessmen through Thai Business Association in Myanmar (TBAM) and Ayeyarwady Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ARCCI) in order to further foster business and economic cooperation of the two sides.

Amb. Pisanu and his team also visited the Basic Education High School in Kadon Kani Village,  Bogalay Township, which was struck by Cyclone Nargis in 2008.  H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn supported, with her personal fund, the construction of a cyclone shelter at the school, which also serves as a school building.  H.R.H. the Princess also supported the school lunch project whereby teachers and students help raise fish and grow vegetables for organic food, and the vocational training where students, mostly from poor families, can learn sewing and dressmaking to earn extra income.  During the visit, the Thai side provided sport gears for the students to use in physical exercises.

Before returning to Yangon, Amb. Pisanu and his team visited a health centre in Taman Village, constructed with the support from H.R.H the Princess in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis. Apart from primary health service and ante-natal care, the health centre also provides mobile service and make home visits to patients in the Village.  As a symbol of the continued support from Thailand, the Embassy donated medicines and other medical supplies to the health centre, thanks to the support of Bangkok Hospital.

This trip to Ayeyarwady Region provided a good opportunity to see great potentials and room for further cooperation between Thailand and Myanmar for mutual benefits of the two countries and peoples.
