On 19 May 2015, the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon organized a Dhamma talk for Thai Community as a social gathering for a good cause.  The Embassy invited Phra Khanthasaribhivangsa, revered Abbot of Thama-o Monastery in Lampang, Thailand, who was on his visit to Myanmar, to give the talk.

The Abbot shared his thoughts and interpretation of the teachings of Lord Buddha on how to “find yourself, befriend to yourself, live the best of yourself, control yourself, and understand yourself” which in essence boiled down to being conscious of what you do at all time, seeing things beyond the surface and to the inner truth, and always following the teachings of Lord Buddha so as to create self-respect and mutual respect in society, and to lead the life on the basis of rational thinking and wisdom.  The Abbot also taught how to practice mindfulness by extending mercy from your heart to others, as well as gave some tips for beginners to practice meditation.

The Abbot closed his talk with a brief comparative analysis of Buddhism in Thailand and Myanmar, as he studied the Tripitaka and the Pali language in Myanmar for many years, together with the distribution of Dhamma books he authored and Parita prayer book he translated for further study to all participants.

Around 30 members of the Thai Community joined the Dhamma talk and jointly made merits by giving offertories to the Abbot.  The Dhamma talk was one of the social activities the Embassy regularly organizes for the Thai Community with a view to further strengthening cohesiveness of the Thai Community in Myanmar, which is a primary objective of the Royal Thai Embassy’s mission.
