During 18-21 May 2015, a team of doctors and nurses from Queen Sirikit National Institute for Child Development (QSNICH), Ministry of Public Health of Thailand, organized two intensive workshops on “Child Development” and “Critical Care in Neonate and Paediatrics” for Myanmar doctors, nurses, and teachers, as well as parents of children with special needs, to share their know-how and experiences.

These workshops are part of a series of training that the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand has been supporting their Myanmar counterparts and professionals in related fields for the past years to help improve healthcare services in Myanmar. The Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon provided facilities for the workshops.

For this year, 80 participants attended each of the workshops, more than the target of 60 originally planned, reflecting overwhelming interests and enthusiasm of Myanmar professionals and parents. It also reflected the importance that these participants gave to health and education as human was the real driving force of development in other fields. Thanks to the support of Myanmar Paediatrics Society and Myanmar Austism Association, which helped connect with qualified doctors and nurses, as well as children with special needs and their parents, the workshops were successful with active participation.

Since 2010, Myanmar has been more open to new ideas and very keen to learn from other friendly nations in the development process in all areas for the benefits of the people.  This cooperation between the Embassy and the Ministry of Public Health is part of foreign policy, whereby the Royal Thai Government has been providing support through training programmes in various fields of study to help improve public services in Myanmar.  As these workshops focus particularly on children, it is hoped that they will grow up well as strength of the nation and solid foundation for ever closer ties between Thailand and Myanmar.
