On 11 August 2015, the Royal Thai Embassy hosted a reception to celebrate the Historical and Architectural Conservation Award 2014 won by the Thai Residence.

The Association of Siamese Architects under the Royal Patronage (ASA) made an announcement of the awards in 2014, with the Thai Residence being selected for the award under the Institutional Buildings and Public Buildings Category.  The Thai Residence is the first and only one property situated outside Thailand to receive this prestigious award.

On 27 July 2015, H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the award presentation ceremony, with Mr. Norachit Sinhaseni, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, receiving the award on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ behalf.

In his remarks to the members of Team Thailand and the Thai Community who attended the reception,   Ambassador Pisanu highlighted that the Embassy took great pride and honour in being granted this award as it signified the stewardship of all former ambassadors and their families, as well as Embassy officials, in the conservation of this national and cultural heritage.  The  Thai Residence is not only the property of the Royal Thai Government, but moreover, it also hosted many stately events, most importantly the Royal banquet hosted by Their Majesties King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit for H.E. U Win Maung, the then President of

Burma, in March 1960 during the Royal Couple’s first and only state visit to Myanmar.  This Residence had also hosted great number of VVIPs, leaders, statesmen, and various historic events throughout Thailand-Myanmar modern history.

The Thai Residence has been well conserved and recognized for its architectural and historical values.  This Tudor-style stately home was built over 100 years ago when Burma (then country’s name) was under the British rule.  The Royal Thai Government purchased this property in 1948, the year of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Thailand and Myanmar. This Residence is the first milestone and has been, and will continue to be, a cornerstone of Thailand in its mission of friendship in Myanmar for the mutual benefits of the two countries and peoples.
