The Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon, in collaboration with Rajanagarindra Institute of Child Development (RICD), Department of Mental Health, donated customized wheelchairs for disabled persons in Myanmar at National Rehabilitation Hospital (MNRH), Yangon on 28- 29 January 2016.

The donation was organized with purpose of upgrading the quality of life for Myanmar disabled persons who are currently in need of the wheelchair to support their daily living.  All donated wheelchairs were assembled and customized by experts from the Rajanagarindra Institute in order to perfectly satisfy each patient’s special  needs.

The 2-day workshop was successful by concluded 41 patients and disabled persons, both informed and disabled by accident, received their customized wheelchairs. The equipment helps to improve their quality of life and create social opportunities for them and their families. The workshop was also a forum for experience sharing and transfer expertise between the personnel of RICD and MNRH with regard to customized equipment for patients with disabilities. 

The donation ceremony was held on 29 January 2016. H.E. Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Thai Ambassador to Myanmar and Dr. Jedsada Chokdamrongsuk, Director-General of Department of Mental Health jointly handover customized wheelchairs to Dr. Nwe Nwe Thein, Medical Superintendent of National Rehabilitation Hospital. Ambassador extended appreciation to all supporting agencies for their effort. The Ambassador also addressed the significance of improving mental health together with physical health and reiterated Thailand’s readiness to assist   Myanmar in related fields.

Thailand has provided projects to support Myanmar health sector as guided by the policy to comprehensively further promote Thailand - Myanmar friendship and bilateral people-to-people relations.
