During 15 - 16 August 2016, Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata received H.E. Mr. Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Minister of Transport of Thailand, who paid a visit to Nay Pyi Taw to follow up the implementation of Dawei Special Economic Zone (DSEZ). Also joining this visit were Mr. Porametee Vimolsiri, Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB), and Mr. Newin Sinsiri, President of Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA).

On 16 August 2016, Minister of Transport of Thailand hold a discussion with H.E. U Kyaw Win, Union Minister for Planning and Finance of Myanmar, and H.E. U Than Myint, Union Minister for Commerce of Myanmar as the Chairman of the newly established Special Economic Zone Central Working Committee, to explore ways and means for Thailand and Myanmar to drive the DSEZ forward. The discussion focused on the revitalization of the existing mechanism for project implementation and public financing for the two-lane road linking the DSEZ and the border between Thailand and Myanmar.

The two-hour meeting successfully created common understanding between the two countries and served as a major step for the further acceleration of the DSEZ that the Thai and Myanmar leaders had earlier agreed to speed up.

The DSEZ is trilateral cooperation between Thailand, Myanmar and Japan. Once completed, the DSEZ will be the largest special economic zone in Southeast Asia. Thailand is fully committed to supporting Myanmar to realize the DSEZ for the well-being of local people, development of Myanmar, and a shared vision for progress and prosperity of the whole region.
