Thailand’s Ear Surgery Mobile Unit provides free service in Dawei

During 9 - 11 August 2016, A Thai Ear Surgery Mobile Unit comprising 24 doctors and medical personnel from Rajavithi Hospital and the Rural Ear Nose and Throat Foundation provided free medical services at Dawei General Hospital. There were more than 1,000 people received services from the unit including the ear examination, the hearing test and ear operation throughout 3 days of the unit.

The opening ceremony on 9 August 2016 was honoured by Dr. Lai Lai Maw, Chief Minister of Tanintharyi Region for her attending and opening remarks. Prior to the ceremony, Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar also led the Thai medical personnel to pay a courtesy call on the Chief Minister which he emphasized the sharing of expertise and knowledge to Myanmar side especially in public health service sector.

The Ear Surgery Mobile Unit was one of activities of the Royal Thai Embassy to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary, following Her Majesty’s vision for adopting the mobile medical service to the people in rural areas.

For over 20 years, the Ear Surgery Mobile Unit team provided medical services free of charge to people in rural areas of Thailand’s neighboring countries. More than 17,500 patients in Myanmar received the treatment and examination from the unit. The project reflected the true intention of Thai side to provide assistance to Myanmar in public health sector and also promoted relations between the two countries both at both government and people levels.
