The Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon, in collaboration with the College of Music, Mahidol University, the German Embassy in Yangon, the Goethe Institute, Myanmar organized the first full orchestral concert in Myanmar by the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO), under the patronage of the Royal Thai Government, on 26 August 2016 at National Theater, Yangon; 27 August 2016 at National Theater, Mandalay; and 29 August 2016 at MICC 2, Nay Pyi Taw.

The TPO concert tour in Myanmar aims to celebrate the two auspicious occasions for the Thai people; “The Seventieth Anniversary Celebrations of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne” and “The Auspicious Occasion of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand’s 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary on 12 August 2016; as well as to serve as a mission of goodwill and friendship to all friends in Myanmar.

 The concerts in 3 cities were warmly welcomed by Myanmar dignitaries, members of diplomatic corps, Friends of Thailand, and general public who filled all three concert halls that the TPO performed. In addition, the Royal Thai Embassy and the TPO received the great honour from H.E. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor of Myanmar by her attendance at the concert in Nay Pyi Taw. The 3 concerts were also live-broadcasted by MRTV, MITV and MRTV4 in order to share the prominent shows for Myanmar viewers at home. The Thai businesses in Myanmar including Krungthai Bank, Bangkok Airways, Banpu, Thaibev, and Chatrium hotel kindly sponsored this goodwill mission from Thailand to Myanmar.

 The TPO concert tour in Myanmar was successfully concluded and becomes a true symbol of goodwill and friendship from Thailand underlining the determination to further develop the existing cordial relations between Thailand and Myanmar.
