Myanmar Amputees’ Better Service with Thailand Assistance

Royal Thai Embassy, in collaboration with the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. the Princess Mother, deployed a prosthetic unit to provide customized artificial legs for Myanmar amputees, at National Rehabilitation Hospital, Yangon, during 21-25 November 2016. This event is one of the charity activities to make merit for the late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar who gave speech emphasizing the sincere friendship of Thailand to assist and share knowledge and expertise with Myanmar.
During 5 days of the operation, doctors and technicians from Thailand worked together with Myanmar related personnel producing free of charge, 54 artificial legs for 53 Myanmar amputees that helped improve the technique and skills of the latter.
Since 2013, the Royal Thai Embassy has been working to improve services to disabled persons in Myanmar by setting up the prosthetic workshop at National Rehabilitation Hospital and donating necessary equipment for the prosthetic production. The Embassy also promoted capacity building to relevant Myanmar personnel through various workshops and training both in Myanmar and Thailand, as well as helped to establish network between Myanmar and Thailand’s related agencies.
