Thailand is Ready to Share Experience in Promoting Local Brands with Myanmar

On 23 March 2016, Chargé d’Affaires Ms. Wiraka Moodthitaporn delivered the opening address at the “Top Thai Brands 2017” trade fair at Melia Hotel, Yangon. This is the second “Top Thai Brands” fair organized by the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, in collaboration with the Federation of Thai Industries, and the Thai National Shippers Council, thus representing a synergy of the Thai public and private sector to enhance economic relations with Myanmar, and to strengthen the ASEAN Economic Community.

In her opening address, Chargé d’Affaires Ms. Wiraka emphasized Thailand’s readiness to share experience in developing and exporting internationally-recognized products and services, as well as activities to raise awareness of local brands. She highlighted the trade fair’s aim to exemplify successful business practices, and to share Thailand’s experience in strengthening the business sector for sustainable economic development. In addition, importance was also given to knowledge sharing and collaboration to increase trade value and trade volume.  

The fair was well attended by both the Myanmar and Thai side, with distinguished guests including Daw Aye Aye Win, Director General of the SME Promotion Department, Ministry of Industry of Myanmar,  U Thant Zin Lwin, Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA), U Win Myint, Director of Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization, U Thein Han, Vice Chairman of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), U Win Aung, Chairman of Dagon Group of Companies, Mr. Chayoot Sripian, Committee and Trade Investment Promotion and Business CouncilFederation of Thai industries, and Mr. Sombat Premprabha, Vice Chairman of the Thai National Shippers Council.

The fair included 130 booths, representing 113 Thai leading enterprises in many categories, ranging from fashion and lifestyle, jewelry and accessories, to health and beauty, and automotive and machinery. The fair also provided opportunities for business matching and tutorials in make-up, cooking, and Thai massage.
