During 21-23 May 2015, H.E. Gen. Surasak Karnjanarat, Minister of Labour of Thailand, paid an official visit to Myanmar at the invitation of H.E. U Aye Myint, Union Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security.

This official visit is the first time that the two ministers met.  The Myanmar Minister and his team offered their great hospitality, very warm welcome, and excellent arrangements, fit for a ministerial delegation.  Meanwhile, the Thai delegation came with great amity and strong commitment to deepen labour cooperation between the two countries.  The two sides discussed frankly and openly about the issues related to Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand and how to further enhance labour cooperation through the renewed Memorandum of Understanding.    

There are over 1 million Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand who have contributed a great deal to the Thai economy.  Both sides are committed to the documentation of migrant workers to ensure that they will enjoy the rights that they are entitled to under Thai laws.
