At the initiation of the Royal Thai Embassy to engage with the Thai Community in Myanmar in charitable work to pay back to the Myanmar society, Thai Volunteer Alliance for Myanmar, or TVAM, was born.  TVAM was warmly welcomed by both Thai nationals and Myanmar friends who support this noble mission.

With the suggestion of Myanmar friends, TVAM members made 2 survey trips to Nga Pyaw Gyun Village in Nyaung Tone Township, Ayeyawady Region, to assess the needs and project feasibility, as well as to seek advice from the revered Abbot as well as the Village Head and members of executive committees.  TVAM members were joined by Myanmar volunteers who worked with Sonne Foundation from Austria which has been supporting the monastic school under the care of the Abbot.

This volunteer initiative was blessed by the Abbot and the Village Head with their full support. Village administrators were active and engaged in the development of the village, while the school headmistress and teachers also lent their helping hands.

From preliminary assessment, possible collaborative activities include promotion of hygiene and nutrition for children and improvement of English proficiency for teachers.   TVAM members and their Myanmar friends will contribute their labour and financial support, and together with support from Thai and Myanmar companies, this volunteer work will surely be a success for the benefit of Myanmar society.

Nyaung Tone Township is not far from Yangon and is accessible by road.  As farming is the main occupation, people are rather poor.  Many children depend mainly on monastic school for their education and the school depends on the donation.  Every helping hand could change the life of these children for the better.
