Handover Ceremony of Lavatory Facilities to Nagahlainggu Monastery, Yangon

          On 16 August 2015 Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata joined Somdet Agga Maha Phra Buddha Chinnawong, Wat Pichaya Yatikaram, Buddhist Laymen from Thailand, and the Thai Community in Myanmar in the handover ceremony of lavatory facilities to Kalawa Sayadaw of Nagahlainggu Monastery in Yangon. On this occasion, H.E. U Nyunt Swe, Chairman of Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Association and Former Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, and representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Myanmar are also presented at the ceremony.

             The Royal Thai Embassy, Yangon with support of the Thai Community in Myanmar initiated the project to build new lavatory facilities for monks, novices, and merit-makers at Nagahlainggu Monastery with a view to further strengthening cordial ties and promoting for sustainability of Buddhism, which is major social pillar of both societies.

             This state-of-the-art and air conditioning lavatory is fully equipped with standard equipment and high quality sanitary products made in Thailand with special facilities for persons with disabilities and elders. The Embassy set the goal that this lavatory would be one of the model for other monasteries around the country on standard sanitation.

             In addition, Somdet Agga Maha Phra Buddha Chinnawong, Wat Pichaya Yatikaram and Buddhist Laymen from Thailand also took this opportunity to offer 500 sacks of rice, various materials, and a fund of 100,000 Thai Baht to help support the victims of the flood in Myanmar. These activities symbolize Thailand- Myanmar friendship and the promotion of a shared value between both societies in Buddhism.
