Ambassador welcomes the first Thai air-travellers arriving in Myanmar with visa-free

On 11 August 2015 , Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata, Ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and Mrs. Suriyapa Bunnag, Vice President of Nok Air welcomed the first Thai air-travellers arriving in Myanmar with visa-free at Yangon International Airport.

Talking to the Thai and Myanmar press at the welcoming event, Ambassador Pisanu said the visa exemption is an important milestone for Thailand – Myanmar relations; it will strengthen the ties between the two countries, boosting connectivity, exchange of people, tourism, bilateral trade and investment as well as promoting the vision of ASEAN Community

The Agreement on Visa Exemption for holders of ordinary passports between Thailand and Myanmar, which was concluded on 28 July during the 8th Meeting of Thailand – Myanmar Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation in Chiang Mai and came into effect on 11 August 2015, facilitates nationals of the two countries, who hold ordinary passports with at least 6 months validity, to travel visa-free to the other country through international airports. Furthermore, nationals of Thailand and Myanmar are entitled to stay in the territory of the other country for a period of not exceeding 14 days from the date of entry.
