Thai supports Myanmar for preparing medical staffs to be a part of ASEAN Community

On 17 August  2015, Mr. Chainarong Keratiyutwong, Charge D'Affaires, Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon, attended the opening ceremony of the "Thai-Myanmar Medical Excellence for ASEAN People” at Yangon General Hospital. Dr. Prapon Tangsrikertikul, Deputy Director-General, Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Public Health of Thailand, Dr. Udom Chaowarindr, Director of Rajavithi Hospital, Department of Medical Services, Prof. Theingi Myint, Pro-Doctor, The University of Medicine 1, Dr. Hla Myint, Medical Superintendent, Yangon General Hospital were also joined the ceremony.

 “Thai-Myanmar Medical Excellence for ASEAN People” is a collaboration between  Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Public Health of Thailand, Rajvithi Hospital, University of Medicine 1, and Yangon General Hospital to share the knowledge and experiences on new medical technology to doctors, nurses, and medical staffs in Myanmar.

Rajvithi Hospital has provided professional team of medical doctors and nurses to share medical knowledge on Laparoscopic Surgery at the Yangon General Hospital. Programs during the workshop consisted of lectures and surgical demonstrations such as Endoscopic Thyroidectomy, Laparoscopic Hernioplasty, Endoscopic Discectomy, Endoscopic Discectomy, Endoscopic Decompression, Laparoscopic Nephrectomy, Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy, TLH c BSO c BPND c PANS c PW, and Endoscopic Sinus Surgery.

This project is another successful cooperation in public health which help strengthen friendship between Thailand and Myanmar. Thailand has continuously supported Myanmar in public health especially along the border area for the past two decades and intends to do so for the well-being of the people of our close neighboring country.
